Stepanian

Coming to Reno's on Saturday, June 9.

In the tradition of the great vintage rock supergroups,  Stepanian is-first and foremost-a band.  Like Bon Jovi and Santana before them, their moniker comes from that of their front man, Eric Stepanian.  However, in this band each member contributes something unique and essential to the mix.  Stepanian's signature sound is unmistakable.  This Boston quartet exhibits the explosiveness of radio pop with the organic soul of a smoky barroom.  Their live show simmers with a provocative brand of lyrical pop songwriting, sweet baritone vocals, tongue-twisting saxophone hooks and a rhythm section that won't let even the shyest of crowds stand still.  The unparalleled camaraderie that exists among the band is extended to their audiences and leaves new and old fans coming back for what Stepanian can only describe as "Crazy Rock Love".

Stepanian exploded onto the college and club scene in early 2005 after spending much of 2004 polishing and developing.  Opening the year with two captivating showcases at the NACA Northeast Conference and the NACA Mid-Atlantic Festival, sold-out shows in Boston soon followed.  Their success placed them on bills alongside national acts such as Howie Day, Rusted Root, Maroon5 and Jason Mraz, which catapulted the band into a frenzy of attention.

The persistent snow typical of New England winter continued to fall in February 2005 as Stepanian put the finishing touches on their anything-but-ordinary release, Autumn She Leaves.  A musically diverse record of crafty pop, intelligent lyrics, and unsurpassed musicianship with a unique instrumentation promised nothing but fuel for the band's burgeoning fan base.  Produced and engineered by Dave Chalfant (The Neilds, Erin McKeown), the record features a guest vocal appearance by Universal recording artist Stephen Kellogg.  "Twilight", a flute-infused rock song, is featured on Awarestore.com's Earsnacks Vol. 6 compilation.

Stepanian's recent success comes from their humble, but impressive, beginnings.  In 2003 the band recorded their debut EP, For Lack of Better Words, at Dragonfly Studios (Dave Matthews Band, OAR).  The album, produced by Chris Keup (Jason Mraz, Rachael Yamagata) and Stewart Myers (Agents of Good Roots), features one of the band's signature tunes in "Call Me When You're Famous".  ABC Family also took notice of the band when they licensed "These Days," a spirited and lyrical track for their new show Knock First.

Today Stepanian maintains a busy performance schedule while constantly writing and refining new material.  Fall of 2006 marks the release of "wait out the rain" another collaboration with producer Dave Chalfant.  The EP finds Stepanian taking their next artistic step with memorable melodies and new sounds.  Poised at the brink, the band strives to take the next step and looks forward to bringing its exciting live show to fans all over the country.

Country Club
& The Porn Horns

Appeared on Saturday, April 21

A great band from Brooklyn, New York.

Check out their web site here.

These Brooklynites have broken from the trends of today's average rock band by infusing their music with brass instruments and non-stop energy. There is no doubt that CCATPH's sound is colorful, fun and infectious. It would be a mistake to overlook these guys.    ~Freeindie.com

The Porn Horns can turn an ordinary rock and roll groove into a seedy gangster shakedown in eight bars. Their solo moments are interesting and expressive, but when they play together, it's the musical equivalent of a heavyweight's roundhouse right.    ~NJ.com

Big guitars, bigger vocals and fat horns. Good songs for great times... this stuff must be great live. Hint, hint, hint.    ~Starr Tucker - New York Waste

Peter Gulli

A few photos from one of Peter Gulli's nights at Reno's.

He's back often, and now sponsored by Bud Light.  Come join the fun!

The
Torpedoes
Appearing Saturday, February 3rd, 8:30 pm

Your guide into the mysteries of the cosmos, the very meaning of life;
cleverly disguised as a bar-room dance band…

The burning need for a creative outlet triggered three insurance geeks from the greater Hartford area to form The Torpedoes in early 2003.  The Torps have developed a solid local following (sometimes referred to as a rampant mob), regularly playing several venues in the Simsbury / Granby metro area over the past 3 years.  The band also recorded and released their debut CD “Deep Dive” a little over a year ago.  Torpedoes shows are known for the eclectic (some might even say eccentric) mix of music proffered – everything from classic rock stalwarts The Beatles, The Doors, Cream, and Hendrix, to reggae, to country roots rock, to R&B/Motown, with a healthy does of originals thrown in.  The band will even please today’s hipsters with current choices from groups like The Foo Fighters, White Stripes, and Gnarls Barkley.  Unfortunately all band members have “regular” jobs – but all swear they are working for The Man only as a placeholder until the first big record contract comes along and they can buy their own wide body 737 to jet across Hartford County for tour dates.

The Torpedoes

Sean Cronin: Vox, guitars, bass guitar, harmonica, B-flat sousaphone

Matt Desfosses: Vox, bass guitar, keyboards, harmonica, open-tuned guitar, mandolin, congas, rain stick

Drew Davison: Vox, drums, bass guitar, sackbutt

With support from

Dave Racagni: Trumpet, rhythm guitar, juice harp

     Bob Buzecan: Keyboards, spoons

Last Call

Straight off performing a great show as part of Reno's Rockin New Year's Eve,
Last Call is coming back on Friday, January 5, 2007.

Come on down for dinner, you can bring the kids, and enjoy the first show of 2007.
They'll start around 7:30 pm.  See you there!

Last Call is the guitar and vocal duo of Brian Leonard and Doug Hickox.  You’ve seen them throughout the area since 2003.  Doug’s 25-year career has taken him to some of Connecticut’s best clubs.  A skilled and ranging vocalist, Doug also showcases six and twelve string guitars and harmonica.

An acoustic and electric guitar player, Brian’s style ranges from jam band to classic.  A variety of influences has shaped his commitment to play in any form.

Doug features Breedlove, Ovation, and Zager guitars; while Brian plays Alvarez, Fender, and Gibson instruments.  Both are singer-songwriters, and combined have a unique sound that will fill any hall.

Back In Time

Have appeared here at Reno's many times to great crowds.

Not just another classic rock band of suburban mid-lifers.  In less than a year, "Back In Time", or BIT, has been playing the Farmington Valley, including numerous charity fund raising events, along with a lead-in performance at the University of Hartford’s "Spring Fling 2006", for hip-hop recording artists "Yin Yang Twins".  The band plays a variety of high energy, classic rock dance tunes from Van Morrison to Van Halen, Spencer Davis to Stray Cats, and pretty much the classic rock alphabet from AC/DC to The Who.

It’s always a party with BIT… so come on down and have some fun with your Simsbury neighbors, dance to your favorite tunes and, remember…   ...if it’s too loud... you’re too old!!

    BACK IN TIME are:

Roger Auclair: Keyboards and vocals on loan from God

Lee Peters: Acoustic guitar, electric guitar, harp, and vocals.

    Kenn Johnson: Flawless Bass Guitar

Jim Meltzer: Drums, vocals and cowbell

John Valyo: Tamborine, vocals, guitar strummin’ and wailin’

Missguyded
  (formerly Chump Change)

Coming back soon.

Missguyded is a “cover” band that plays a wide variety of “top 40 songs” from the ‘70’s, ‘80’s,  ‘90’s & into 2000.  Their emphasis is on songs that utilize the groups’ vocal talents and dynamic musicianship.  This local band will present an assortment of older and newer songs that will appeal to all ages of listeners.

SIRSY
They were here on Friday, October 6 at 8:30 pm

SIRSY is fronted by the charismatic Melanie Krahmer with a "stunning voice capable of a lion's roar and a floaty whisper"... a girl "with the lungs of a teenage athlete and the growl of a sixty-something blues singer"... a girl who "plays Ian Anderson-esque flute solos", and "drums like a rock star-- standing up, no less!".  Krahmer shares the stage with co writer, Rich Libutti, a "dynamo on both bass and guitar" with a "stage wit and explosive energy all his own".  Libutti even plays the snare with his feet during Krahmer's flute solos so the drums never stop! It's a must-see!!
Since SIRSY's incarnation in the spring of 2000, they have accrued an enormous list of accomplishments that would seem impossible for an unsigned band.  Playing over 250 shows per year, they've shared the stage with Maroon5, Collective Soul, Lifehouse, Cheap Trick, Blues Traveler, and more! Hailed by the Boston Globe, New York City's Village Voice, and countless others, SIRSY is said to "stir the soul even more when you see them live than on their critically acclaimed recordings".  Perhaps this explains their large and devoted cult following...
This IS their day job.  Yes, that means they're broke, but it also means they're hungry and passionate and ALWAYS working at their craft.  You won't find a more devoted band.

PLAYED WITH: MAROON 5, COLLECTIVE SOUL, BLUES

Reno's 1st Annual Golf Tournament

On Sunday, September 24, 2006, Reno's Gathering Place held the 1st annual Reno's Golf Tournament at Simsbury Farms Golf Course.  36 golfers took part in the scramble format around the beautiful 18 holes.  Except for a few sprinkles, the rain basically held off until the very end.  Everyone had a great time, and a few golfers won some prizes for best scores, closest to the hole, and longest drive.  Then everyone came down to Reno's Gathering Place to share their experiences, great shots, embarrassing moments, and guessing how many times Curtis lost his clubs off the back of his golf cart.  Everyone also had a few plates full of some great food.

Many action shots were taken of everyone all around the course.  Click on the button below to check them out.

Be sure to join us next year.  Until then, see you at Reno's!

The Score

The Score was here at Reno's Gathering Place on Friday, September 15, 2006.

A live band based in Connecticut, formed in Glastonbury, will be make a return to what used to be The Lobster Barn.
Like they said, "the fish are gone, but we are back".

The Score is a cocktail of many musical influences that allow you to dance, hold your glass high or even occasionally bang your head.  From the jam bands to southern rock, to the 80's and hard rock, each member brings a different flavor to the band.  The band has played private parties, the occasional wedding, a successful Hurricane Katrina benefit and a NEA teacher's retirement rally at the Connecticut Capital Building that was covered by the news media and attended by 2000 people.  Over the past 2 years, The Score has branched out and played in many fine establishments around the central Connecticut area.  Come on out and join the fun!

Click here to check out their web site.
